HollowEyes

From Blackstar Dojo Wiki

HollowEyes is roleplayed by 3kul. See also Little Sister.

RP Character: HollowEyes

Name: HollowEyes (real name "Byule", meaning "Without a Soul")

Age: Same as Little Sister

Species: Parasitian (of the Leech clan).

Alignment: Evil (member of the Evil Council).

History: Born not only as a twin (which are considered to be terrible luck in Parasitian society), but as an 'unequal' one, HollowEyes chose to turn on his fellow clan members rather than eating his twin sister. For devouring several of his own people as opposed to his own sister, HollowEyes and Little Sister were exiled from their clan.

Following many years of wandering, they were discovered and captured by a rogue scientist, who was both egotistical (believing himself to be a saviour of humanity) and deranged. The scientist, one Eugene Serpells, utilized their DNA to create three mostly-Parasitian monstrosities that would serve as his underlings alongside HollowEyes and his twin in the man's sworn duty to aid humanity (which is on the brink of extinction back in HollowEyes' realm).

Finding his new lifestyle to be rather uninteresting, HollowEyes escaped with the help of the Spirit of Paper, whom he named 'Aoiame' (or Ayame for non-Parasitian speakers), leaving Little Sister behind. She taught him how to use charms in exchange for a life of devotion to her, which HollowEyes misinterpreted to be some kind of marriage proposal. After spending a while with HollowEyes however, Ayame grew to like him enough to reconsider her initial proposal and allow him to leave her planet.

Not too long after having escaped the lab HollowEyes found sanctuary within the Evil Council, his own somewhat relaxed views on morality and ethics allowing him to fit in without too much trouble. He has made many friends in the Council and does whatever he can to help further the group's agenda.

After a brief incident in which he found himself kidnapped by his former 'employer', HollowEyes returned to the Council with his twin sister, who for lack of any better name quickly gained the nickname 'Little Sister'. She did not fit in with everyone in quite the same way that HollowEyes did, but she seemed to enjoy many of the member's attitudes towards killing and torturing other lifeforms.

The Council soon came to inhabit Blackstar, a realm created by one of its own, where HollowEyes was involved in a number of major escapades. He managed to obtain one of the relics left by DP (claiming it in the name of the Council), and has made a number of non-Council friends and enemies.

He's fought with his sister on multiple occasions, as she seems hell-bent on eating HollowEyes herself in order to gain his power. During one of these fights he lost his Third Eye to her, but has since gained a duplicate back after another fight. He also encountered Ayame once more, who seemed keen to resume things where they'd last left off (now interested taking HollowEyes up on the 'marriage proposal'), and as a result of this she gave HollowEyes a tree that produces the paper used in charms. Her assistance has proven useful to HollowEyes multiple times, though being a rogue spirit not keen to associate herself with Gods or the Immortal Realm she's not often around.

More recently HollowEyes created himself a bodyguard from the corpse of a 100-year old cat and a hell-bound spirit, resulting in the creation of a loyal Nekomata named Caton.

HollowEyes is currently missing, and not even members of the Evil Council know where to find him.

Description: HollowEyes has two legs, four arms, three eyes and one large horn on his head. He is bipedal, and has a third eye to replace on his chest. As for his four arms, they are situated around his neck in such a fashion that they resemble a propeller or the blades of a fan, connected to an appendage similar to a collar. Thanks to a recent change, his arms are only blades from his elbows down - above that, they're just arms, so he is a little more flexible than he used to be. His horn appears at the front of his head, extending upwards from where his nose would be if he had one.

Physical Abilities: HollowEyes can spin his arms to enhance his speed (on both land and in water) and jumping capabilities (to the extent of hovering or floating, but not flight). He has considerable leg strength, though his frontal horn is not really for attacking things with by itself. Thanks to a recent body-switch with a commissioned clone, HollowEyes has regained the use of his Parasitian tongue, which allows him to absorb the physical attributes and abilities of any living thing that he eats. As he despises his heritage however, HollowEyes is unlikely to ever use it.

Other Abilities: HollowEyes' third eye has similar abilities to his original third eye, but is much weaker. It can only focus on one mind at a time, and only picks up on very vague emotions. However, as it's quite a bit weaker than the original, it also takes much less energy for him to use it.

Due to the fact that they share the one mind, it is possible for HollowEyes and Little Sister to synchronize their thoughts, allowing for high-speed communication, shared senses and other helpful things. Unfortunately they are unlikely to ever see a need to team up and use abilities like this, given how bad their relationship with each other currently is.

HollowEyes is also skilled in working with souls and spiritual energy, and having spent years studying them has become quite adept at determining the best use for individual souls. Were he to be so inclined, he could certainly help somebody discover talents that they never knew they possessed, but more often than not he'll use this knowledge for his own benefit, breaking souls down to make charms or using their energy to produce a spirit item.

Weaponry: Arm Blades - His four blade-like arms are his main weapon, spun in a propeller-like fashion to slice the foe by running into or beside them. These are made of incredibly dense bone, and as such can cut through most organic defenses, but have little impact on proper armour.

Charms - Charms are small enchanted pieces of paper that affect whatever they directly touch for those of you who don't know, and HollowEyes makes and wields his own. Generally, charms are used as enhancers to the user or hindrances to the foe, and most effects caused by them are temporary. Charms are able to be wielded by anyone after HollowEyes has created them (as they are really just magically-enchanted pieces of paper).

Currently his personal supply of charms comes from the Charm Tree, which is kept safely hidden in the Corrupted Cave and guarded by Ayame, a close friend of HollowEyes (she'd say wife, but he doesn't really see it that way). HollowEyes always carries a few with him in pouches strapped to the underside of his arm blades.

Chain of Despair (Caton style) - using his minion Caton as a medium, HollowEyes can apply a charm not too dissimilar to the one used for the old Chains of Despair to the head of his nekomata to turn him into a single Chain of Despair, complete with a large metallic jaw at the end. Just like the original Chains of Despair, Caton's Jaw form is designed to clamp down on a foe, with the chains generally used to either protect HollowEyes or entangle the foe. As the name would indicate, this weapon also affects the foe's morale, making them feel despair and woe as the jaw bites them.

Caton's Jaw form is quite a bit bigger than those of the original Chains of Despair and appears to be of a slightly different design, so it can double up as a shield if HollowEyes so desires it to. Also unlike the original Chains of Despair are the effects of Caton's Jaw, which last for several minutes after bitten, and can increase in severity if the foe is bitten multiple times.

Just like the original Chains of Despair, the Caton Chain and Jaw combination is highly resilient to any kind of magic, although when used in combination with the Ruby Dagger (ie: when Caton has the Ruby Dagger in his back), the Jaw created is totally unaffected by any kind of fire (magic or otherwise). The downside of using the Ruby Dagger and the Chain of Despair together is that it gives off a lot of heat and Caton must forfeit the ability to control fire for as long as he remains in Chain-and-Jaw form (in order to focus entirely on using it for defensive purposes). It's also quite easy for an opponent to tell when the Ruby Dagger is involved with the Chain of Despair, as the Caton Jaw's fangs appear to be rubies rather than metallic (though they're still as hard and dense as they usually would be).

It's probably worth noting that Caton is completely in control of this form, though he is able to communicate easily with HollowEyes via mindspeak like this and is infinitely more agreeable than the old Chains, so it's not like he'll go crazy and do what HollowEyes doesn't want him to do.

Other Notes: HollowEyes cares little about money (which may seem quite odd to most people, given that he's actually quite rich), but is a craftsmen at heart, and as such is very interested in rarities. The Chains of Despair themselves were a one-of-a-kind weapon, and he's still quite proud of the design (hence why he continues to use it). As well as making his own charms HollowEyes especially likes to see and hear about the works of others. He's not opposed to being asked to create something specific, but he's a bit fickle with what he works on, and won't bother if it doesn't interest him or if he feels his creativity is being stifled.

The relationship between himself and Caton is more or less that between a master and his underling. HollowEyes resurrected Caton with the express purpose of finding a way to better utilise the powers of the Ruby Dagger without actually having to give it up or spend several years learning the finer points of pyromancy, and was very pleased with the results. It may seem like a better idea to some people to pick something more powerful, like a dragon or a unisus like Embri, but HollowEyes prefers the smaller, easier to control Nekomata (at least, it's easier for him to control).

His involvement with the Council may seem a bit unusual to most, as HollowEyes doesn't immediately come across as a typically 'evil' character. Perhaps it's because he enjoys the mental challenges of combat that are so often thrown his way as a member of the Evil Council, or perhaps he simply enjoys being a part of the most powerful group in the Dojo - regardless of whatever it is that motivates him to stick by the Council, it seems that he has no intentions of leaving it any time soon, which makes his disappearance all the more unusual. HollowEyes currently holds the rank of Second-in-Command, and prior to his vanishing into thin air he was responsible for overseeing much of what goes on in the Council.

As for his relationship with his sister... It could be better. She's only ever seen him as the key to 'completing herself' in the Parasitian sense, whilst he's always seen her as a sister, an individual person totally different to himself. Whilst he's not necessarily wrong in this aspect (they are technically exact opposites of each other), she's now stabbed him in the back more times than he cares to tolerate, and so HollowEyes no longer speaks with her. This would make the more formal Council meetings very awkward for HollowEyes, though fortunately for him Little Sister usually sends some minion of hers in her stead (as just about anyone who knows her will tell you, she's not a 'people person').

RP Minion: Caton

Name: Caton

Age: 100

Species: Nekomata ('Forked Cat').

Alignment: HollowEyes (master).

History: Caton has spent most of his 100 years in his grave, dead as a doornail.

However, on his 100th birthday, HollowEyes resurrected him with a combination of his own abilities and the Ruby Dagger. Since the cat was now alive and 100 years old, it became a Nekomata - a mythical creature with various useful abilities, amongst which included a strong affinity towards fire (the main reason as to why HollowEyes sought to resurrect a 100 year-old cat).

Since his resurrection, Caton has been nothing but totally loyal to HollowEyes, extremely grateful to return to the land of the living with more power than he'd ever had, in life and in death.

Description: About the size of the average cat, Caton walks about on his hind legs most of the time. Distinguishing features include his two tails (which came from the splitting of his original tail, the most distinguishing feature of any nekomata) along with three long scars framing his face and the Ruby Dagger, which is sticking out of his back. His fur is white and his eyes are green. He prefers to wear clothing whenever he can, and can usually be seen wearing a casual navy blue suit.

Physical Abilities: Not many worth noting, as most of Caton's abilities are magical/spiritual, but as he's technically undead HollowEyes' minion is very difficult to kill.

Other Abilities: Nekomata are usually associated with ghostly fire, although Caton's control over fire is greatly enhanced by the Ruby Dagger. He usually leaves it where it is, firmly skewered into his back (this doesn't appear to cause him any discomfort or pain), rather than having to pull it out to use it like HollowEyes did, so it's more of an amplifying device than a necessity - Caton is still able to wield ghostly fire without the Ruby Dagger, though it's significantly weaker.

His ghostly flames are a pale blue in colour, and barely visible to the naked eye (similar to a gas flame in that aspect I suppose), though there's not much difference between them and regular flames (other than the colour). Unlike HollowEyes, who relied on Charms of the Liquid Flames to create lava to control, Caton can create his fire from nothing in almost no time at all, although he is limited in the amount he can make - even with the Ruby Dagger he's not going to make something like a pale blue sun in a matter of seconds (or ever, for that matter), but something like a forest fire is pretty doable.

Just like other nekomata, Caton also possesses the ability to control corpses like puppets, though it's a pretty limited ability - he can really only move the corpses about, he can't make them speak or anything like that, and he can't move something that's only half-dead.

He's able to take on two other forms as well - that of a much larger cat (up to about a metre and a half in length not including his tails) or that of a human. Given his preference for fighting using only his fire-based abilities however, he rarely uses his limited shape-shifting skills in combat.

Perhaps most importantly is the extra form 'given' to him by HollowEyes - utilizing the same charm magic that allowed him to create the original Chains of Despair, HollowEyes is able to apply a special charm to Caton to turn him into a single metallic jaw and chain. HollowEyes still calls this a Chain of Despair (despite the fact that Caton dislikes this name), though it has a few significant differences.

Weaponry: Ruby Dagger - One of the legendary relics of the Dojo that grants Caton control over fire in all of it's forms. It can be removed from him at anytime, though HollowEyes seems happy to leave Caton as the weapon's 'sheath'.

Other Notes: Despite his high level of intelligence, Caton's grasp of language is still rather poor, as he's only been able to talk since he was resurrected, and he speaks in a rather broken manner (mindspeak however allows him to get around this). He seems happy enough to serve as a weapon and a minion to HollowEyes though (whom he refers to as 'Boss'), as this is the kind of lifestyle that he's used to.

Like HollowEyes, Caton seems content with the simpler things in life, and as long as he's got plenty of lamp oil to drink and meat to eat he's happy (human flesh and fish meat are easily his favourites, though he's yet to try a kind of meat that he doesn't like). He enjoys his control over fire too, but he prefers to use it for combat purposes only rather than for any other reasons.

Strangely enough, it seems that just like a regular feline Caton hates dogs.
